Zayn been expected to attend the Billboard Music Awards 2017 with Gigi after a leaked seating plan revealed the pair would be at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
However as the red carpet started to fill up with music royalty, Zayn pulled the plug on his appearance.
In a tweet to his 21 million followers, he told his fans:
